The power of NO!

I watched the film NO the other day, starring Gael García Bernal. It is about the historical moment when a group decided to run against Pinochet in 1988. The movie shows in a powerful way how advertising tactics can be used to influence the voter. I dont want to say to much but the movie is very relevant to what we have learned so far and it just amazed how clearly the movie shows that it is not about what is said – but what emotions are awakened by it.

You can get the movie on Netflix but there is the trailer. If you watch it please leave a comment about your thoughts, I would love to discuss it 🙂

Asdis: this is such a good movie! I agree with you that it sums up a lot of what we have discussed in class.

Something that might interest you: I was at the screening of the movie when it premiered at the New York Film Festival last year. Someone asked the director if the characters represented specific people. He said that doing so would have been too complicated because LOTS of people were part of the strategy planning and execution.

He said that each character represents groups of people, which I found truly amazing and smart. Each member of the opposition represent many other members that were in the discussions. Gael’s character represents various people who were working in the consulting firm.
